"Technology has helped me match the course content to the learning styles of the students in coaching education. The learning style of coaching education students is approximately 60% visual, 25% kinesthetic and 15% auditory. Thus the visual and kinesthetic style is preferred by 85% of the students.
The interactive PowerPoint slides visually stimulate the learner and it is a kinesthetic activity, which is consisitent with the learning style of most of the students in coaching education. The interactive slides help students to retain information better than giving them no slides or giving them all the information on the Powerpoint slides. As a result of the interactive Powerpoint slides, digitized videos, web site self-assessments and games, the students are engaged in their learning and having fun."
Methods:
Professor Jones focuses on understanding the various learning styles and how technology can assist in delivering course content that will leverage each learning style. She effectively blends learning styles with the use of technology to enhance the learning experience.
Professor Jones uses a wide variety of technology to stimulate learning, but she mainly focuses on creative interactive Powerpoint, and the use of games to engage constructive thought and increase student participation. Other resources Professor Jones uses to present information that is consistent with the learning styles of the students, are digitized videos of popular movies demonstrating course concepts, and web self-assessments that are linked to the course concepts.
